Sardines contain a variety of vital nutrients. They’re packed with heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, and they’re a natural source of vitamin D, which is typically obtained from enriched foods.

  • Package spaghetti - 1 (16 ounce)
  • Vegetable oil, divided - 3/4 cup
  • Garlic, minced - 6 cloves
  • Apollo Sardines packed in vegetable oil, - 2 (4 ounce) cans
  • Bread crumbs, seasoned -1 cup
  • Parmesan cheese, freshly grated - 1/3 cup
  • Fresh parsley, chopped - 1/4 cup
  • Black pepper, ground – 1 tsp
  • Parmesan cheese, additional for serving – optional

Boil lightly salted water in a large vessel. Add spaghetti, and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until soft. Drain, and rinse under cold water. Toss with 1/4 cup vegetable oil, cover and keep warm.

Place a skillet over medium heat and add the rest of the oil. Stir in the garlic, and cook just until golden, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the sardines, and cook for another minute more. Add the bread crumbs and 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese. Stir in the parsley and pepper, and remove from the heat.  Toss the spaghetti into the large skillet and stir.

Plate the sardine flavoured spaghetti and top it with additional Parmesan cheese before serving.
