Rustik Smoked Yams and Beans

Yam and beans have never tasted this good - Red Palm oil gives them a smoky flavour - go ahead and savour!



  • 1.3kgs Yam
  • 1 kg black-eyed beans (or any beans of your choice)
  • 600 grams onions, finely chopped
  • 1 big tomato
  • Seasoning of your choice
  • ½ teaspoon garlic, chopped
  • 3 bay leaves
  • ¼ habanero pepper(optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 teaspoons of olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons Mother Africa Red Palm Oil


Chop onions and tomatoes finely.

Cut yams into large pieces after rinsing them well.  Steam them till well-done.

In another pan steam the beans. Add some salt. Strain beans from any excess water.

Add olive oil to a pan on medium heat. Add the onions and tomatoes along with the garlic. Saute for a minute.

Add the bay leaves, habanero pepper, and pinch of salt. Stir well.

Cook the above in medium heat for 15 minutes.

Now add 2 spoons of the red palm oil. Cook for another 10 minutes.

Add the remaining 2 spoons of red palm oil. Cook for another 5 to 10 minutes, until well done.

On a plate or bowl, place the steamed yams and beans on the side. Top them with the sauce.

Serve hot with rice or any accompaniment of your choice.
