Poku mushrooms are also known as Chinese mushrooms.Poku mushrooms have a mild flavour, great for Thai and Chinese dishes. This mushroom species is one of the most popular mushrooms in Asian cuisine and has a very fibrous consistency which is very similar to meat with a spicy aroma.


  • Cooking oil - 2 tbs
  • Garlic cloves, crushed - 2
  • Fresh ginger, finely grated - 2 teaspoons
  • Dayat Shitake/ Po-Ku Mushrooms, thinly sliced - 100g
  • Baby pak choy, trimmed, leaves separated, stems cut from leaves - 1 bunch
  • Baby bok choy, trimmed - 1 bunch
  • Baby corn spears – 400 gms (can use tinned ones as well after draining the liquid)
  • Prawns, shelled and deveined – 200 gms
  • Oyster sauce - 2 tbs
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Water – ¼ cup
  • Sesame seeds, roasted, - I tbs


Heat oil in a large frying pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for 30 seconds or until aromatic.

Add the mushroom and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Add the pak choy stems and stir-fry for 1 minute. Add the pak choy leaves, bok choy, corn, prawns oyster sauce and soy sauce. Toss to combine.

Add the water and reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for 2 minutes or until the vegetables are just tender.

Garnish with sesame seeds. Serve with boiled rice or a bed of noodles.
